Description of Activities
St Mark’s Mothers’ Union has a membership of around 50. There is a varied programme of activities each month to encourage and strengthen our faith and to enjoy a refreshing time together. Mothers’ Union is a great Christian and caring organisation with over 3 million members worldwide, working towards improving family life in our communities through practical action and prayer.
The purpose of Mothers’ Union is clearly and specifically related to strengthening and preserving marriage and Christian family life. To this end a number of objectives have been identified:
- To uphold Christ’s teaching on the nature of marriage and promote its wider understanding
- To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the church
- To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians, united in prayer, worship and service
- To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children
- To help those whose family life has met with adversity
In the Armagh Diocese some members are involved in running Child Contact Centres, where children can meet parents/grandparents in a safe environment after marriage breakdown.
Membership of the Mothers’ Union is open to all who have been baptised and who support the aims and objectives.
When: Last Monday of each month 8:00pm
Leader: Mrs Betty Williamson
The Mothers' Union Prayer
Loving Lord,
We thank You for Your love so freely given to us all. We pray for families around the world. Bless the work of the Mothers' Union as we seek to share your love through the encouragement, strengthening and support of marriage and family life. Empowered by Your Spirit, may we be united in prayer and worship, and in love reach out as your hands across the world.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
