Each Brownie makes her promise after a few weeks and is then encouraged to work on “interest badges”. The girls are also encouraged to think of others before themselves and to do a “good turn” every day. 2nd Portadown Girl GuidesTarget Group: Girls 10-14 years Description of ActivitiesThe girls work in patrols and are very much involved in planning their own activities. Each year they work towards challenge and interest badges and at the end of their fourth year they can work towards the Baden Powell Challenge Award; the highest award in this section of guiding. They also take part in local community and international events. The yearly programme makes use of local sporting and cultural facilities and experts introduce the girls to a wide range of skills such as first aid, cooking, dance, craft and personal safety. The girls also choose themed activities that introduce them to topics as wide ranging as chocolate, space, environmental issues and fashion. Back to top |
